The idea of forming Croyde Surf Club was born in a car park, overlooking the beach in 1979. Home of one of the best beach breaks in the UK and some of the best surfers, many years on and Croyde Surf Club is still kickin' 'n' bitin'... more about Croyde Surf Club
Tiki National Interclub Championships
Croyde Surf Club will again be hosting the National Interclubs Surfing Champs this Autumn. Headline sponsors Tiki have put up a prize pot of £750 worth of goodies and with prizes from Surfplugs and Indoboard the event looks to be well supported.
Teams from around the UK are invited to compete in this much loved grassroots event which pitches pros and amateurs into heats together; with Open, Women’s and Junior Team trophies up for grabs and the coveted BSA British National Club Champions title to be won.
Last years event saw Croyde Surf Club sweep the honours board with wins in all categories. Teams from Wales, Wessex and Cornwall were unable to defeat the combined local talents in classic Interclubs storm conditions.
This time around Croyde are expecting stiff competition: rumours abound of a determined effort by the disgruntled surfers of past Champions Newquay to wrestle the trophy from the North Devon team’s grasp. This will be no two horse race though: strong challenges from around the regions are expected.
The event will run over two days on the 30th and 31st October at Croyde with free parking and discount camping on offer. With evening entertainment including Bands and DJs on the Saturday night it looks set to be a riproarer.
"To enter your club, please download, print and complete BOTH the CLUB ENTRY form and the TEAM REGISTRATION form. Complete a team registration form for each team you are entering. Then post all the forms and entry fees to the address shown on the entry form. Thank you!
(If you don't know all the names of team members yet then just fill in and post the entry form and fees and then send in the team registration details as soon as you can... thanks!)"
Tiki National Interclubs Surfing Championships
30th & 31st October 2010
Downend, Croyde, North Devon.
Format, Rules and Information
Format:
The contest will run over 2 days (conditions allowing) with all surfers surfing at least twice in 20 minute heats.
A surfer’s two highest wave scores in their heat will be combined to give a points total which will go towards their team score. All points are valuable to the team score regardless of a surfer’s position in the heat.
Team scores will accumulate over the course of the weekend resulting in a category by category league table giving an eventual team winner. Trophies will be awarded for winning teams in each category.
There will also be an overall winning club trophy determined by the combined best positions of a club’s top teams across all categories. In the event of a tie a count back system will be employed taking into account points totals from each category.
Rules:
Teams must submit a nominated judge to the judges rota. The nominated judge may be a member of the team or a suitably qualified non-surfing buddy. The nominated judge will be rotated within the team during the event.
Open teams of 6 may consist of any age or gender surfer.
Women’s teams of 4 may include juniors
Junior teams of four surfers any gender must have all been under 18 on 1st January 2010 and must include at least 1 u-14 and 1 girl.
Surfers may only surf in one team within each category.
Any board may be ridden. Judging will be based on the criteria for short board contests (radical manoeuvres, speed, power and flow in the critical part of the wave etc.) but if you are riding a longer board your points will still count towards your team total… (and if you are shredding on a longer board you will be judged accordingly!)
All surfers will need to carry their own insurance either through membership of the BSA or through membership of their club.
l surfers will be asked to sign a disclaimer accepting responsibility for accident or injury and authorising photographic images to be used in publicity material.
