Who Has the Cheapest Travel Insurance?
Travel insurance can often seem like an extra an expense when you’re going on holiday, but it’s a necessity to have it. If you don’t take out cover, you could see yourself in a very sticky situation regarding bills if something went wrong. In most policies medical expenses are covered, but you can also get cover for theft or loss of items, and cancellation of your trip amongst other possible misdemeanours. Of course, policies differ in price across the various providers, so you might be wondering how to find the best quote quickly. A quick search on Compare the Market might give you some idea, but it’s not always completely accurate. We decided to do our own little test, by trying to find out some of the best quotes from three of the top travel insurance providers: AA, Churchill and Go Travel Insurance.
In the first test we went for a one year European policy excluding ski trips beginning 31st of January 2008. Here were the results:
Go Travel£31.95
Churchill: £77.78
AA Travel Insurance: £39.63
Clearly the winner here in terms of price is Go Travel. The insurance policies, however, do differ. Just make sure that before you book the policy you know what cover you want and what you are getting. All policies will be provided before payment, so you can have a thorough look over them, and if you’re not satisfied you can withdraw your application.
Next we tried a policy of one week from the 1st of June – 7th June. Surprisingly, there didn’t seem to be any advantage of booking early, as the prices were almost exactly the same as booking for a holiday next week. We found the following prices:
Go Travel - £11
Churchill: £17.60
AA Travel Insurance - £13.44
Again GoTravel came out on top but it all all depends on how much cover you have and want, so check around all provider’s policies and quotes.
